Hell On Earth

Feeling nostalgic today so decided to write about a game I loved to run back in the day.  Don’t fret though because if you end up wanting more, the books are still available digitally for pretty cheap.  One thing that is cool is that great roleplaying games just never go out of style and Pinnacle’s Deadlands: Hell On Earth is no exception.  The original Deadlands was a post apocalyptic western and Hell On Earth pickup from there, throwing in a touch of steam punk, road warrior and sci-fi.  The system is quick to pickup and character generation is smooth and simple.  HOE uses everything from d4 to d20 die.  It also has a unique initiative system where you use poker cards and chips to determine who draws first.  The world is an awesome mix of humor and horror much in the vein of the evil dead series and Ash’s/evil hand are also apart of the worlds mythos.  You have good’ol western folk, savages, road warriors, junkers (build weapons out of junk), lawmen, lawdogs, mercs, nukes/psychers, templars and more.  Lots of flavor in a world gone mad with zombies, killer cyborgs and madmen.  It really is a great light hearted game that you can have fun with.  Though the original books are out of print, the website DriveThruRPG still has them available in high quality pdf format.  I love this site for finding those lost games I played so long ago.  The prices are very reasonable ranging from $5-$15 with most hovering around $10.  I own them now on digital and am very satisfied with the quality and the service from DriveThru.  If you get in the mood for something a bit different than fantasy then the HOE might suit your fancy partner!
